Watermark Creative was approached by The Key Branding to create a delicious hyper-real white chocolate splash and flavour inclusions for an upcoming Nestlé Milky Bar packaging refresh
Starting with sketches, we explored different splash crown shapes and thicknesses. Once the sketch was approved the 3D forms were roughed out in Cinema 4D before moving to sculpting in ZBrush. Once the splash sculpt was approved we moved back to Cinema 4D for texturing and lighting. The splash was rendered with Octane Render and then post processed using Adobe Photoshop.
The splashes are unique to each flavour while retaining a luscious creamy look. The sub-surface scattering of the creamy splashes and chocolate was achieved with Octane Render and Cinema 4D. This effect was especially helpful with the submerged inclusion pieces that were key to the Nutty & Crunchy and Cookies SKUs.
The inclusions for the different SKUs were key to each flavour and were the most time intensive part of the image work. The chocolate pips and cookie pieces were modelled and sculpted in C4D and ZBrush while the almonds, biscotti and biscuit pieces were 3D scans commissioned from Blank Repository who were very responsive and easy to work with.
The biscuit pieces in the Nutty flavour SKU went through many rounds of development and ended up being mostly photo retouching.
